Killer here writing from the road with my band as we head back from a quick Melbourne raid to play Dead By Daylight IV – the Melbourne edition
Well how do you start an epic journey full of deathmetal, mystical Eagles, an hidden lion, 3 separate cases of mistaken identity and a possible lifetime of therapy… for me it was at 6am with zero sleep and a strong desire for coffee.
The next few hours are a blur of travel, stops, coffee, vehicle changes, pick ups, drop off’s and more coffee. The void was calling but we were already past the point of no return so on we went. Let just say adventures were had in towns we don’t know the names of…
Travel time… we venture into the void and arrive 2 days later at The Bendigo Hotel for a night of brutal breakdowns and smiley face tattoos in places I wish were not seen (I really do wish that)
Sound check ran a little over so after blacking my eyes (makeup not violence) I was treated to PENDLEHILL‘S absolutely destructive set with a cover of Parkway that honestly, blew me away and was tight as fuck. Not to take away from their own songs which they delivered from hooded robes with a passion the mystics themselves would be proud of a solid set.
SEEK MISERY, first of the South Australian invasion for the night, took to the upstairs room like a fire that would never go out! With massive vocals and the ambience of a horror movie soundtrack buried deep in the heart of the most brutal breakdown to ever exist. I’ll leave it at this: if you get the chance to see SEEK MISERY, do not sleep on it. These guys know how to bring it.
After this brutal assault from the Adelaide lads we took a moment to breath, and take in the feel of the room. It had been a massive few days already so I took the opportunity to snap a few photos with old friends, grab a lemonade and prepare for I CHOOSE VIOLENCE. The Adelaide takeover continues with the powerhouse ICV stomping through a set including songs from the brand new ep “War of the Damned”. These guys are another band you should not sleep on.
IRONJAW BOOKINGS really know how to showcase some of the best current talent and Melbourne’s own DEADWEIGHT80 showed up and and really showed the crowd how the night was going to go. Josh, their awesome vocalist, stood out front with a conviction and lust for life that demanded attention and pushed the crowd into a frenzy so even this elder hXc kid chucked a little mosh in. The DW80 boys continue to show how beautiful and unrelenting can marry together to create catchy sick noise that gets stuck in your head.
FURIOUS GEORGE were the next tick on my bingo card for the night and they did not let me down! I don’t think they ever could! With hair flying, some of the best guitar moves and the licks to back them up FG powered through and left me hanging for more. I’m always looking the the next opportunity to catch these cats live and you should also. Jake Furious, the man with the mic, had a vocal that needs to be seen and heard to get close to understanding. It’s brutal, raw but also trained and skilled. He is a technical wizard that I could not even start to imagine the time and dedication spent to hone that. As a band they are well formed and tight as hell. A creative powerhouse I’m already craving my next hit of FG.
Next up were… well me… Storm The Crown
It’s hard to comment on yourself without sounding something something… but we had a blast, the set was fun and it was great to see so many familiar faces scattered through the crowd. Big love to the homies Kev, Case and Mr B. We loved being there and can wait to come back soon!
VIRTUES blew the roof off the Bendi with a set that showed the skill set of a band that knew how to show up. Big, brutal and solid. What can I say other than look them up and thank me later.
Finishing up were NOTHING. These guys are another band you do not want to sleep on. From start to end NOTHING were a absolute joy and I’m looking forward to the next chance to see these guys again.
This was a night I will not forget in a long time. So many good times, laughs and the chance to see and catch up with friends. Promises were made to make sure its not this long between visits and the epic and long journey back to Adaiaide started. Were were exhausted but all smiling and ready for the next battle to commence.
