Cover shot – BENTHAM’S HEAD

Emerging from Melbourne’s underground metal scene, Bentham’s Head has released their debut full-length album, Blood, Salt and Ash. This ambitious record, produced at Big Vibe Creative Studios and expertly mixed and mastered by Troy McCosker, transcends traditional metal sub-genres, blending Progressive, Black, Death, Doom, and Sludge Metal into a powerful seven-track album.

Blood, Salt and Ash stands as a bold and dynamic offering, with each song weaving together narratives of human struggle on the frontiers of civilization. The album delivers visceral soundscapes inspired by iconic literary works, where harsh realities and primal survival are translated into sonic force. From the brutal western plains of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian to the dystopian future of Philip K. Dick’s A Scanner Darkly, and the dark history of Van Diemen’s Land, each track is an odyssey into worlds shaped by hardship and resistance.

Musically, Bentham’s Head creates an expansive auditory experience, blending roaring guitars, crushing drums, and ferocious, versatile vocals with moments of stark quiet, ebbing and flowing between aggression and atmosphere. _Blood, Salt and Ash_ promises a journey unlike any other, with towering crescendos and pensive interludes that reflect the intense narratives they seek to convey.

The album’s three singles Blood, Salt and AshIsle of the Dead, and New Path have already captured the imaginations of listeners with their thematic depth and sonic force. These songs set the stage for the full album’s immersive storytelling, covering a range of historical, dystopian, and existential themes.

Bentham’s Head cites influences such as Mastodon, Conjurer, Gojira, The Ocean, and Wayfarer, but with Blood, Salt and Ash, they carve out a sound uniquely their own. Listeners across the metal spectrum, from fans of sludge to post-metal, will find something to resonate with in this genre-defying release.

Blood, Salt and Ash is available across all major streaming platforms, as well as on CD and vinyl through bandcamp.
