On Friday 19th September, the usually serene surrounds of Singing Bird Studios in Frankston were reduced to a steaming, throbbing mess of filth, fury and festivity, as Czech goregrind sensations Gutalax brought their Australian Smear Campaign to town. What followed was a beautifully grotesque evening of guttural chaos, toilet humour, and grind so filthy it needed to be flushed twice. They were joined by an unhinged lineup of support acts including Satanic Dog Cxnts, Sydney’s Slaughter Cult, Frankston’s own NembutoliK, and Melbourne monsters Algor Mortis.
Satanic Dog Cxnts kicked things off with the subtlety of a jackhammer lobotomy. From the opening chug, it was clear these maniacs weren’t here to simply “play an opening set”—they were here to turn the venue into a chaotic fever dream. Somewhere between blistering riffs, and a eulogy for their dearly departed guinea pig Mr. Nibbles, they summoned a fucking clown onstage, who proceeded to inflate balloons while the band shredded through their set like rabid guinea pigs on bath salts. The bassist—with no guitar strap—rested his weapon of low-end destruction on a stack of milk crates, looking more DIY than a squat toilet in the outback. It was wild. It was fucking perfect.
Notable song: Beelzebub Rub n’ Tug
Next up, Slaughter Cult made the long haul from Sydney and proved why they’re a name that clings like a failed wipe — messy, uncomfortable, and impossible to forget. Combining blistering technicality with thunderous groove, they had the crowd eating out of their shit-stained hands from the moment they launched into their set. Their drummer was absolutely off the chain—laying down machine-gun blast beats that would make The Bezerker nod in grim approval.
Notable song: Menstrual Marinade for the Ladies
Then came NembutoliK, Frankston’s local Death/Groove-lords and crowd dominators. Seasoned and savage, they opened like a slow-moving meat grinder before ramping up into a full-blown death metal stampede. Each song hit like a goon sack to the dome, dragging the pit into ever more violent territory, like someone mid-battle with a vindaloo shit — violent, sweaty, and absolutely no hope of clean escape.
Algor Mortis were next, and honestly, they could’ve headlined. Equal parts brutal and surgical, their set was a masterclass in tightness and sheer auditory violence. Cecilia Keane’s demonic gutturals shook the very bowels of the venue, while the rest of the band painted a sonic hellscape that had the whole room moving. They’re off to melt faces in Japan next, but you can bet your last bog roll we’ll be lining up when they return.
Notable song: Sadistic Enlightenment
And then… the cistern exploded.
The mighty Gutalax took the stage in a brown tsunami of toilet paper, inflatable livestock and pure grindcore glee. Self-described as a “boy band” from the Czech Republic, Gutalax gave Frankston a night it will never fully wash off. They ploughed through a glorious setlist of fan favourites, each one more absurd and infectious than the last—Poop Corn, Buttman, Diarrhero, Robocock, Total Rectal and, of course, the brown-crowned jewel: Shit Bastard.
With their now-infamous Wall of Shit inciting a crowd-wide bowel-quake of energy, and an inflatable cow crowd-surfing majestically across the venue, Gutalax proved once again why they are the reigning kings of crap. The grand finale? A Czech rendition of Old McDonald Had a Farm that somehow summoned the entire venue into a synchronized shit-sloshing frenzy.
To sum it all up, this show wasn’t just a gig—it was a full-blown, double-flusher, Category 5 sonic dumpquake. Every band brought their own flavour to the stew, from crusty chaos to blastbeat carnage. Gutalax dropped the final turd on top like a king squatting on a porcelain throne, leaving Frankston dazed, stained, and strangely euphoric.
This night was a glorious, steaming log of grind history—one that left us all clinging to the rim, praying for more, and wondering if we’ll ever be clean again.
💩💀 Long live the Smear Campaign. Long live the shit.
Massive thanks to Singing Bird Studios and Grindhead Productions for having us!
