In 1982 Jim Henson released The Dark Crystal, an original film that would go on to scar an entire generation of 80’s children. Although it was marketed as a kids movie with puppets, this film had much darker themes than any of Henson’s previous work. It was one of the biggest productions the team had ever undertaken, they created a completely original world containing unique characters and huge set pieces. With a budget of 16 million dollars, the expectations were high and although it received mixed reviews, The Dark Crystal movie grossed over 40 million dollars and became a huge cult classic.

Some time ago Netflix announced that they would be producing a prequel series to The Dark Crystal titled the ‘Age Of Resistance‘. This was met with excitement and skepticism. Netflix confirmed that like the first film, this series would be made using puppets created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud, the original conceptual designer. We are now finally able to see the first trailers for the series and it’s looking amazing.

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance premieres globally on Netflix August 30. Check out the videos below to get a look behind the scenes of the series and the first official teaser trailer
