RIDES – SUNSTUDIOS

We recently went to check out a exhibition hosted at Sunstudios in Melbourne.

Before we even got in the door we were blown away by the amount of killer bikes that were in the car park.

Everything from original Knuckleheads to bobbers and choppers, a seriously nice selection.

REVIEW – Logitech G502 HERO Gaming Mouse

When ever you start getting serious with any form of discipline, the higher the level the more expensive the equipment can become.

PC gaming in particular can send you on the endless search for the ultimate setup. With technology constantly improving its easy to blow money of the newest hottest accessory for your gaming arsenal.

This is where companies like Logitech come in, releasing high performance PC gaming accessories at very reasonable price points.

We recently got hands on with there latest release –

the Logitech G502 HERO High Performance Gaming Mouse

HERO is actually a acronym meaning – High Efficiency Rated Optical

This is the key feature that differentiates it from its predecessor The Proteus Spectrum.

The sensor goes all the way up to 16,000 dpi which is fast becoming the new benchmark.

It has the same layout as all the other mice in the G502 range which is a good thing, as the  layout has made these some of the highest sold gaming mice on the market.

Coming in at 125 grams, this is fairly light mouse, yet like the other G502 mice it comes with a set of weights that allow you fully customize the feel and response.

The Hero also comes partnered with the new G HUB software, allowing a more detailed level of fine tuning. I particularly liked new “screen sampling” effect. This will sample the colours from your monitor and match them with the RGB lighting on the mouse itself.

One other change that I really liked is the thinner lead that less prone to kinking, something that my Proteus Spectrum suffered from.

Tech Specs

Sensor:         HERO™

Resolution:  100 – 16,000 dpi

Software:     Logitech G HUB

Lighting:       RGB

RRP:             $149 (AUD)

Overview-

This isn’t a huge step up from previous models, but does show how Logitech continues to release affordable state of the art gaming mice.

This would definitely be a good buy if you are looking at your first high performance Gaming Mouse.

Score – 4 / 5

VIDEO – Rivers Of Nihil – “A Home” Play Through

Rivers Of Nihil have gained a lot of attention with their latest record “Where Owls Know My Name”.

This album features a serious amount of technical playing from every member of the band.

This play through video for the song “A Home” gives you a look at just how skilled Brody and John are at shredding their seven strings.

My favourite section is around 4:38 when Brody smashes a clear little solo.

VIDEO – Nyango Star – Japan’s Heavy Metal Mascot

Meet Nyango Star, the soul of a dead cat inhabiting an apple that supports local agriculture through Heavy Metal.

Japan has many mascots or “yuru-chara” who don’t just support sporting teams, they promote everything from Government departments, restaurants and even getting tested for diseases.

These mascots are so popular, they have their own fan clubs and merchandise.

This is the story of Nyango Star, Japans heavy Metal mascot:

ALBUM OF THE WEEK – Benediction – Transcend The Rubicon (1993)

For album of the week we are digging deep into the archives with Benediction‘s 1993 release “Transcend The Rubicon“.

Benediction are a British death metal band that formed 1989. This is their 3rd studio album and definitely one of their finest efforts.

The album is a non stop barrage of crushing death metal, packed with guitar solos, plenty of double kick and epic vocal from lead singer Dave Hunt.

VIDEO – THE PUNISHER – Season 2 Trailer – Alice In Chains

In recent times, Marvel has completely bombarded both cinema and TV with Super Hero content.

The stand out for me has been the Punisher series, mostly because they didn’t shy away from the ultra violence that is a signature of the Punisher character.

Season 2 is is hitting Netflix and it shaping up to be just as bloody.

Check out the trailer below featuring the track “Would” by Alice In Chains:

REVIEW – JBL T450BT – Can cheap be good?

JBL T450BT – Bluetooth Headphones

A good set of headphones is essential equipment for any metal fan.

I had been rocking a very nice set of Sennheiser earbuds for sometime, until the jack recently broke.

I decided to go for a cheap set of Bluetooth headphones to tide me over until a purchased something a bit more serious.

This is where the JBL T450BT Bluetooth Headphones came in:

Retailing at around $60 (Aus) they are the absolute entry level headphone in the JBL wireless range.

The very first thing you notice when you open the package is how cheap they feel, I mean really cheap. They have a plastic head band and have very little in the way of creature comforts. Overall construction is extremely lite and the buttons felt almost Hollow.

Like most JBL gear, connecting the bluetooth to my device was easy and pain free.

The sound quality on the other hand is surprisingly decent. The bass is strong and the overall clarity was better than I expected.

The battery life is also very good, giving you up to 11 hours between charges.

You can also control your music and calls, I found that the mic was only ok, with most calls suffering from echo.

If you are looking for a easy, no fuss and portable headphones, these are a good choice.

But if you are a audiophile, you might want save your pennies for a higher end headphone.

The good:

  • Very affordable price
  • Decent sound quality
  • Long battery life
  • Collapsible design

The bad:

  • Very cheap construction
  • No creature comforts
  • Voice calls suffer from echo

BREW REVIEW – Old Wives Ales – Old Man Yells At Cloud

If your brew has a Simpsons reference in the name, you know I am going to try it.

Brought to you by Old Wives Ales, this NEIPA pours cloudy with a moderate head.

Even though there is a healthy dose of Australian and American hops, this beer sets itself apart by focusing on the flavour of the hops rather than the bitterness.

In a market that is saturated with overly bitter, hop forward beverages, Old Man Yells At Cloud is a refreshing change.

The Stats:

Style:       NEIPA

Brewed:   Australia

Malt:        Pale Malt, Wheat, Carapils

Hops:       Mosaic, Ella, VIC Secret

ALC:         6.5%

Brew origin:

New England (NE) IPA is a style of American IPA that features tropical fruit, hop aroma and flavour. Typically heavily dry hopped, this giving the cloudy appearance and full bodied flavour. NEIPA’s typically have a less bitter profile that classic IPA’s
